Photo shoot at Seljvavellir, an outdoor pool in South Iceland by Thuy Minh Hussey

I had seen pictures of Seljvavellir in Seljavalallaug on... Pinterest! So I had added it on my list of places to see in Iceland, I thought it would be the perfect place to do a photo shoot there: I liked the idea of adding some variety to a photo shoot, by having the model on dry land and then in the pool. That was without me thinking about the ever changing weather in Iceland, and it was pouring rain (you can see the first part of this shoot here). I was soaking wet, I ended up not being able to shoot with my film camera, and the location wasn't that clean due to some people's poor manners. But I was still very happy (1) to be in Iceland (2) to be shooting in Iceland (3) to be working with 1 of my favorite models. Yes, I'm a half glass full kind of person :)

Fashion shoot in Seljavalallaug, Iceland by Thuy Minh Hussey

Seljavalallaug is an old pool located about an hour and a half away from Reykjavik. To reach it, you have to walk for about 10 min, with no cell phone signal, but it's an easy walk and the surroundings are beautiful. I wonder if Icelanders think tourists are crazy for wanting to go there, because while the scenery is worth it, the pool is taken care once in a while by volunteers. Some people are not respectful and leave their trash behind, and the bottom of the pool is slimy (by what I'm being told. I didn't actually swim in it).

When planning my trip to Iceland, Seljavalallaug was on my list of locations for photo shoots. Also, I really wanted to work with this Icelandic model I had worked before. But this time, it would be have a more modern feel to this shoot. Bryndis was great, she never complained despite the tough weather conditions, and I got some great photos from that day!

A maternity session in Amherst, Virginia by Thuy Minh Hussey

I named this session "The happiness is in the field", based on a French movie. The storyline doesn't have anything to do with it, but seeing the fields and the mountains in the background reminded me of that title.

Pregnancy is such a beautiful, amazing but scary time in a woman’s life. It is similar to nature, for its beauty and a certain fear of the unknown. But despite the adversity, a mother’s strength will get her through it all.

And this beautiful session was also featured in the fine art film blog, Belle Lumière... that was my first time ever on that blog! What an honor!

A little black church in Iceland by Thuy Minh Hussey

Budir is located in the western region of Iceland, in the Snaefellsnes peninsula. There is a little black church there, located between the mountains and the sea. I just couldn't believe that I got to be there, it was so beautiful and completely opposite to my every day life in Virginia.

Opposites attract: a trendy look in a classic venue by Thuy Minh Hussey

I love the idea that opposites attract! To illustrate this concept, this trendy Justin Alexander bridal gown was the perfect choice as it contrasted with the classic look of Salubria plantation. Catherine from Davis and Main Style chose soft waves for the hairstyle, but with a twist, by adding a few braids on one side. The traditional preferred gemstone for engagement rings tend to be a diamond. But in this case, Catherine and I decided on picking something more unexpected with a gorgeous emerald ring, while the ring setting still gave it a traditional look.
