A chilly, rainy afternoon isn't enough to scare away photographers! We ventured out to Fort Fisher, in Carolina Beach, NC, so I could take some of Jessica and her beautiful family. Jessica is the owner of Jessica Horton Photography, based in North Carolina (check out her beautiful work here). Baby Kate was a trooper, she even managed to nap at some point! Of course, her parents made sure to keep her all bundled up. When the sun briefly came out, we were able to "unbundle" her.
I've loved about Beth and Brendon's quiet elegance since I first met them. They share a wicked sense of humor, a love for plaid and for The Walking Dead (among other things!).
They had the choice to get married in the US or in the Bride's native Canada. They settled on Moon Valley Farm, a horse farm in Fredericksburg Virginia, for their woodland chic wedding. This is one of my favorite venues, it's laid back and filled with whimsical details, such as a photo booth, a trailer converted to a bar, and another for Smore's!
The Bride wore a beautiful Kate Spade gown and her parents gifted her earrings from the same designer. The Groom had selected his own attire, a stylish blue gray suit with a beautiful lining and a vest. Him and his groomsmen had controller-shaped cuff links and funny socks! There was also an inside joke: at the reception, some of their closest friends surprised Brendon by putting on t-shirts personalized with his picture making a silly face...
A special thank you to all the talented vendors who helped making Beth and Brendon's day so special:
I named this session "The happiness is in the field", based on a French movie. The storyline doesn't have anything to do with it, but seeing the fields and the mountains in the background reminded me of that title.
Pregnancy is such a beautiful, amazing but scary time in a woman’s life. It is similar to nature, for its beauty and a certain fear of the unknown. But despite the adversity, a mother’s strength will get her through it all.
And this beautiful session was also featured in the fine art film blog, Belle Lumière... that was my first time ever on that blog! What an honor!

Over the years, the boudoir genre has become increasingly popular. This was the first time I got to photograph a couple. It's great to show that it can be tastefully done.

I second shot for Andrea Rodway Photography in D.C., and despite the rain, it was a BEAUTIFUL wedding! The special touches throughout the day, the kindness of the grooms and an amazing playlist during the reception made this one of my favorite weddings. And of course, I got to work with the talented Andrea!

Budir is located in the western region of Iceland, in the Snaefellsnes peninsula. There is a little black church there, located between the mountains and the sea. I just couldn't believe that I got to be there, it was so beautiful and completely opposite to my every day life in Virginia.

It was a chilly wedding day for Jenya and Danny, but the location was so gorgeous, the weather did not really matter. If you've never been to the St Regis in DC, this luxurious hotel is just a block away from the White House. For this black tie affair, there were many stunning details, such as the Bride's Manolo Blahnik shoes and her jewelry from Tiffany & Co. The Groom looked quite dashing too in his black tuxedo. The blush roses at the ceremony and reception completed the elegant look of this wedding. I was crazy about those tall centerpieces with crystals wrapped around them.

Yes! Her beautiful gown had... pockets!
A beautiful couple... a pretty maxi dress perfect for the beach... a beautiful location... what's not to love about this photo session?

I love Ashlea and Eric, they are so perfect for each other, and it's been a lot of fun hearing about their wedding planning. And unlike a lot of grooms, Eric is actually quite interested in that too. Moreover, they're having a destination wedding, next year, in Turks and Caicos! How exciting is that?
But we decided to keep it local for their engagement session, by going to Chatham Manor. Wait until you see their adorable fur baby, Pac <3

I have known Johnna for years, she is the owner of Twila & Co and we've worked on some projects together. I was so excited when her boyfriend Joey contacted me, explaining that he was going to propose to Johnna and asking if I could photograph that. We met at Chatham for a walk through, and on THE day, everything went as planned! Johnna was so surprised, it was awesome to be part of such a special moment in their lives!

In France, we love picnics, even in Paris! We love getting together with friends and family for coffee or a bite, and when Spring's here, it's so nice to lay a blanket in a grassy area, with some good wine, cheese, bread and a plate of charcuterie (I know it seems cliché, but it's true!).
Catherine from Davis and Main Style loves the concept of a picnic too, and created this family friendly setting, with some beautiful touches and outfits, like her daughter Elliot's whimsical waist cape and body suit.

I love the idea that opposites attract! To illustrate this concept, this trendy Justin Alexander bridal gown was the perfect choice as it contrasted with the classic look of Salubria plantation. Catherine from Davis and Main Style chose soft waves for the hairstyle, but with a twist, by adding a few braids on one side. The traditional preferred gemstone for engagement rings tend to be a diamond. But in this case, Catherine and I decided on picking something more unexpected with a gorgeous emerald ring, while the ring setting still gave it a traditional look.
You might know that I work at Target (for almost 10 years!), it has given me a stable income and enough flexibility to work on my photography business. Because to be honest, I'm too scared to photography full time, as I just can't live with the excitement of not knowing if I'll be able to pay my bills every month or not ;)
I am thankful for everything that Target has brought me, especially the great friendships I have made. But... (keep on reading! ;)
... It is now time for me to move on to another industry... No, I'm still not going into photography full time... at least not yet! Instead, I will be an office manager at a medical practice, and for the first time EVER, I will have normal work hours, and will be off EVERY. SINGLE. WEEKEND! Which will allow me to focus on photography during that time :)
I have to say... this week has been amazing... a new photography project offer, a new job and being published in VA Bride Magazine blog!
I have actually known this BEAUTIFUL mom-to-be for over 10 years! Ann used to be my boss at the photo studio where we worked at. She had desired a child for so long, so it was very exciting to learn that she was expecting!
Congrats Ann! I can't wait to meet Eva!
One of the reasons why I went to Iceland was to learn from the amazing international film photographer D'Arcy Benincosa, from marketing to photography tips, but really, also getting some life lessons :).
I was incredibly lucky to be part of this journey, and I just couldn't believe that I was actually in Iceland (in Grundarfjordur to be exact), shooting in this breathtaking landscape with models wearing dresses just as beautiful as they were!
