Dawn and Donna are among my favorite people in the world. They are genuine, kind and lovely. I can't say enough great things about them. I have had the honor to document milestones in their lives, and this photo session was to celebrate Avery, the newest addition to their family. We met early in the day in a park in Richmond, VA, to get the best light, avoid the crowds and try to beat the heat. We got 2 out of 3 right! It got hot fast, but this family of 4 did so good as we kept them as much as possible in the shade. Avery was not as smiley as usual, possibly because of the heat. But I still got different expressions from him, and his special bond with his big sister London was captured. My favorite photos are when the moms are cuddling with their children.
Seljavalallaug is an old pool located about an hour and a half away from Reykjavik. To reach it, you have to walk for about 10 min, with no cell phone signal, but it's an easy walk and the surroundings are beautiful. I wonder if Icelanders think tourists are crazy for wanting to go there, because while the scenery is worth it, the pool is taken care once in a while by volunteers. Some people are not respectful and leave their trash behind, and the bottom of the pool is slimy (by what I'm being told. I didn't actually swim in it).
When planning my trip to Iceland, Seljavalallaug was on my list of locations for photo shoots. Also, I really wanted to work with this Icelandic model I had worked before. But this time, it would be have a more modern feel to this shoot. Bryndis was great, she never complained despite the tough weather conditions, and I got some great photos from that day!
I've been following Sonia's journey on her YouTube channel Layoutline where she mainly vlogs about moving to Iceland and adapting to her new life. I was attracted by her fun filming style, her nice voice and her authenticity. So going to Iceland was also giving me the chance to photograph Sonia and her husband Ingimar, as they are expecting their first child.
I always suggest to my clients to pick a location that has a special meaning to them. Initially, I was surprised that Ingimar would choose the Blue Lagoon. Don't misunderstand me, it is a beautiful location, with its black volcanic rocks and milky blue water. But it is also very touristic, so Icelanders tend to avoid it. But it all made sense when Ingimar explained that as a child, he used to swim there, and even when it was modernized into an ultra chic spa, it still remained as one of his favorite locations. He loved it so much that he took Sonia there on their first date, to impress her! I guess it worked because she ended up moving to Iceland later on.
There is a park next to the spa, and that's where we shot at. It was a little tricky, due to the light changing as the sun would come out at times. But fortunately, it didn't rain, hale or snow like it did earlier that day (yes. All of that in the SAME day!). Sonia and Ingimar were a lot of fun to photograph, they are the type of people you want to hang around with. And the funny thing was, one of Sonia's viewers recognized her during our shoot! It was unexpected and a fun moment, something you can see in her vlog. You can watch it further below <3
Welcome to the world Clark! The concept for his newborn session was about capturing a relaxed moment in his home, with his parents and big sister Elliot. I loved how relaxed and low key it was.
A chilly, rainy afternoon isn't enough to scare away photographers! We ventured out to Fort Fisher, in Carolina Beach, NC, so I could take some of Jessica and her beautiful family. Jessica is the owner of Jessica Horton Photography, based in North Carolina (check out her beautiful work here). Baby Kate was a trooper, she even managed to nap at some point! Of course, her parents made sure to keep her all bundled up. When the sun briefly came out, we were able to "unbundle" her.
I've loved about Beth and Brendon's quiet elegance since I first met them. They share a wicked sense of humor, a love for plaid and for The Walking Dead (among other things!).
They had the choice to get married in the US or in the Bride's native Canada. They settled on Moon Valley Farm, a horse farm in Fredericksburg Virginia, for their woodland chic wedding. This is one of my favorite venues, it's laid back and filled with whimsical details, such as a photo booth, a trailer converted to a bar, and another for Smore's!
The Bride wore a beautiful Kate Spade gown and her parents gifted her earrings from the same designer. The Groom had selected his own attire, a stylish blue gray suit with a beautiful lining and a vest. Him and his groomsmen had controller-shaped cuff links and funny socks! There was also an inside joke: at the reception, some of their closest friends surprised Brendon by putting on t-shirts personalized with his picture making a silly face...
A special thank you to all the talented vendors who helped making Beth and Brendon's day so special:
I named this session "The happiness is in the field", based on a French movie. The storyline doesn't have anything to do with it, but seeing the fields and the mountains in the background reminded me of that title.
Pregnancy is such a beautiful, amazing but scary time in a woman’s life. It is similar to nature, for its beauty and a certain fear of the unknown. But despite the adversity, a mother’s strength will get her through it all.
And this beautiful session was also featured in the fine art film blog, Belle Lumière... that was my first time ever on that blog! What an honor!

Over the years, the boudoir genre has become increasingly popular. This was the first time I got to photograph a couple. It's great to show that it can be tastefully done.

I second shot for Andrea Rodway Photography in D.C., and despite the rain, it was a BEAUTIFUL wedding! The special touches throughout the day, the kindness of the grooms and an amazing playlist during the reception made this one of my favorite weddings. And of course, I got to work with the talented Andrea!

Budir is located in the western region of Iceland, in the Snaefellsnes peninsula. There is a little black church there, located between the mountains and the sea. I just couldn't believe that I got to be there, it was so beautiful and completely opposite to my every day life in Virginia.

It was a chilly wedding day for Jenya and Danny, but the location was so gorgeous, the weather did not really matter. If you've never been to the St Regis in DC, this luxurious hotel is just a block away from the White House. For this black tie affair, there were many stunning details, such as the Bride's Manolo Blahnik shoes and her jewelry from Tiffany & Co. The Groom looked quite dashing too in his black tuxedo. The blush roses at the ceremony and reception completed the elegant look of this wedding. I was crazy about those tall centerpieces with crystals wrapped around them.

I love Ashlea and Eric, they are so perfect for each other, and it's been a lot of fun hearing about their wedding planning. And unlike a lot of grooms, Eric is actually quite interested in that too. Moreover, they're having a destination wedding, next year, in Turks and Caicos! How exciting is that?
But we decided to keep it local for their engagement session, by going to Chatham Manor. Wait until you see their adorable fur baby, Pac <3

I have known Johnna for years, she is the owner of Twila & Co and we've worked on some projects together. I was so excited when her boyfriend Joey contacted me, explaining that he was going to propose to Johnna and asking if I could photograph that. We met at Chatham for a walk through, and on THE day, everything went as planned! Johnna was so surprised, it was awesome to be part of such a special moment in their lives!

In France, we love picnics, even in Paris! We love getting together with friends and family for coffee or a bite, and when Spring's here, it's so nice to lay a blanket in a grassy area, with some good wine, cheese, bread and a plate of charcuterie (I know it seems cliché, but it's true!).
Catherine from Davis and Main Style loves the concept of a picnic too, and created this family friendly setting, with some beautiful touches and outfits, like her daughter Elliot's whimsical waist cape and body suit.
